Ganapati is
Vidhnaharta Ganesh, & the celebration is almost in every part of India
(Rather World). Ways could differ, prayers could be performed in local
langauages or dilect other than
Sanskrit; but the essence is one. Idea is Blessings of Growth & Removal of
Problems – the Smridhi & Vidhna
Vinashan. Ganesh Chaturthi is a Hindu festival which observes the Birthday of Lord Sri Ganesha. The festival falls on the Hindu month of Bhaadrapada (mid August- mid September). The festival lasts for ten days and ends on the fourteenth day of the waxing moon period (Chandra Kala).
Ganesh Chaturthi is celebrated throughout India. So, It just came a thought in mind that why not to thought through & share a general procedure as how to plan, manage & prepare for Ganapati Sthapana (Invitatation & Estiblshing God), Poojan Vidhi (Praying Process) & Jal Visajanam (Idol Immersion) - so that everyone can be benefited by understanding a general procedure.

A Pooja basically involves making offerings to a
chosen deity(here Sri Ganesh) so as to seek their blessings. The offerings are made with an
acknowledgement – “I dedicate to you OGod, what is truly yours.” The whole pooja is thus an
acknowledgement of one’s smallness and humility, i.e. performance of pooja removes
Ego, which is truly the only hurdle on the path to success & Growth.
First of all, don’t go by “Rules”. Do the Sthapna & Prayers for Shanti - your
Inner Peace, World Peace & Growth. After 10 days surely you shall feel
immense Happiness & confidence.
Generally the
Ganpati is places at home for 1, 3, 5 or 10 days – again, do it as per your
ease, comfort. Coz, world has made more of Process than the spiritual act – its
like Form Versus Substance. Don’t go deep into Form – keep substance of Bhakti.
Ganpati
Sthapana Vidhi (Procedure)
v Sri
Ganpati Sthapana vidhi begins with doing the complete
puja set up, i.e. spring-cleaning the house and arranging all the pujan
samagris / things in place.
v Ganesh Murti Sthapana (Establishing God): the place where the Ganpati will be welcomed
is prepared. Cover the place with a clean Red cloth and spread grains of rice
and place a Supari decorated with vermilion and turmeric. Then the idol of Lord
Ganpati is inducted.
v Use Banana
Leaves, Read Cloth, NavGrah Yantra & MeriGold Garlands (Genda Fool Maala)
for preparation of Ganpati Temple. God Invitation, Establishment &
Welcoming starts at noon / pre noon timings on the Chaturthi day (Shall Try to
provide time as per Muhurtam)
v The Swastivachan
and the Shanti Paath is to be read out (Swasti
Na Indro VridahSwah…….., Can down load it from Google – Simply pay Pushpa
& Akshat, if you don’t know it)
v Deep Prajwalan and Sankalpa: the devotee
must then light a diya in front of the Idol (Murti), followed by an oath
(Sanakalp) to undertake the puja ceremony with complete devotion & for the
Good.
v GANESH CHATURTHI involves bringing a new idol home
and therefore must do the ‘avahana’, i.e. welcoming and invoking the deity.
v This is followed by Ganpati Pran
Pratishtha vidhi, where you pray to Lord Ganesh to come and reside in the
idol. While doing this, one must chant the “Om Vakratunda Mahakaya” mantra. The
Pristhstha may start with –

v Shodasho’pachar
Poojan (16 Step
Worship) must be performed, which involves – 1.Aahawan & Pratishthanam, 2.
Asana Samrpan, 3. Padya Samarpan, 4. Arghya Samparpan, 5. Achman Samarpan, 6.
Snanam & Abhishekam (Panchmitra Snanam – Milk, Curd, Honey, Ghee &
Sugar / Later fresh Water Snanam), 7. Vastra Samarpan, 8. Yagyopaweet Samarpan,
9. Gandham, 10. Akshat, 11. Pushpmala – Durva – Sindoor Samrpan, 12. Dhoop
Darshanam, 13. Deep Samparpan, 14. Naivedya – Prasadam Nivedam, 15. Tambula fal
– Naariyal – Dakshina Samarpan, & 16. Neerajan & Visarjanam.
v Pray Narad’rachit Ganesh Strotam with
Shodashpachar poojan – Pranamya Sirsa
Devam, Gauri Putram Vinayakam……..
v Shodashopachara Puja: in this puja,
Dhoop, Diya, Panchamrit, Prasad, Paan, Supari, Janeva, Dhruva, Itar, Coconut is
offered to Lord Ganesh. In all, 16 ingredients are offered to Lord Ganesh.
v Now the main idol is offered garland and
dhruva, decorated with ornaments and each part of the idol is prayed to.
v After Shodasho’pachar, please pay Pradakshina,
Pushpanjali, and Aarti.
v One can perform Angpuja & Ganesh Atharva Shirsha, after this / repeat only Deep
– Pushpa – Dhoop aadi, with Aarti, Atharva Shirsha & Pushpanjali Daily till
Ganapati stays at home.

This is a standard Ganpati
Sthapana procedure, which may generally followed by everyone, but
the Ganesh Chaturthi puja Vidhi may slightly vary as different
communities may practice it in different ways.

Visarjan Puja Vidhi (Procedure)
Visarajan day
comes, when Ganpati takes away all of your problems (Vidhna), & Negative
energies with him.
Ganesh
Chaturthi is the day when Lord Ganesh enters one’s home. While His stay in
one's home, He showers prosperity on to the inhabitants and when He leaves (one
the day of the Visarjan) he takes all their problems with Him. The idol of Lord
Ganesh has to be escorted out of one’s house following the proper Ganpati
Visarjan procedure. People place Ganpati at home for 1, 5, 10 days. (Chaturdashi Visarjan is advised for).
Special Advise
- It is advised to keep Idols made of meltable potter Clay. Also, many of us
stay away from Sea / Rivers / Lakes etc, or the Religion of country may not
allow Idol Visarjanam; so its advised to perform Ganpati Visarjan in a Bucket
or Tub etc for poojan purpose and later
once the clay melts with water, one can take it to nearest water source &
pour it in flowing water.
Ganesh
Visarjan vidhi is somewhat similar to the Ganpati Sthapana Pooja vidhi, barring
a few procedures.

The
puja commences with a shuddhikaran (cleansing) ceremony.
·
This
is followed by reading the Swastivachan mantra and the Shanti Paath
·
The
next step involves lighting the dweep (Deep Prajwalam) followed by taking the
solemn oath of devotion to Lord Ganapati (Sankalpa).
·
This
is followed by the Shodashopachara Puja, which is a sixteen step procedure.
·
The
puja then concludes with an aarti.
·
This
is followed by Pushpanjali (offering flowers) and Shama Prarthana (a prayer
asking for forgiveness for all wrongdoings). You may pray following -

- The Ganpati Visarjan vidhi comes
to an end by chanting the following mantra –
